Robin Lane and the Chartbusters: Imitation Life

This is a 1981 cutting edge rock album that I'm listening to on original vinyl as I type. The rise of present day Robyn made me think of this band to which we slam danced in college. It's often hard to predict how 80s music will sound when played for the first time in 2 or 3 decades. Some of it is timeless -- The Police, Roxy Music, The Clash -- but those sounds tied more intimately to the times can be trickier because of the pressure pop culture was putting on artists to be SO new and different. Compare that to 2010 when music that is evolutionary, revolutionary, experimental, throwback, fused, mashed-up, alt, post alt, post post whatever, nouveau fill-in-the-blank, everything, goes. This very 1981 music holds up very well. "Baby, I've been feeling strange..."
